This is the last stage of the set-up for you to complete. Thanks for sticking with it, you’re almost there.

Umano surfaces the underlying drivers of agile practices and behaviour from your team's project sources to spot outliers and opportunities for improvement. Once you have created an account and connected your tools, you can create your team’s project space by selecting your project sources.

A project space tells Umano which project sources are used by your team (for example, which Slack channels and Bitbucket repositories), as well as which team members contribute to the project.

In this article, you’ll learn how to create your project space.

Before you begin

You will need to select the relevant project sources (boards in Jira, spaces and pages in Confluence, repositories in Bitbucket and channels in Slack or Mattermost) from the tools you have connected. We will ask you to confirm which team members you’d like included as contributors to your team’s project space.

Finally, we will ask you to confirm which team members you’d like to invite to view and collaborate within your project space (we call these lucky people ‘Umanists’).

To recap Umano’s current requirements:

To create your team’s project space on Umano, it is a requirement that your team uses Jira Scrum or Simple boards. We use this as the foundation to construct the team’s project data and contributors for your project space.

Teams using these nominated Jira boards and who apply the Kanban method can also create your team’s project space on Umano. Once you’ve connected your board, we’ll be in touch to ask what iterations you’d like us to preset for you, be it that you work in a weekly, fortnightly or monthly cadence. This feature is soon to be automated.

Instructions

To create a project space, follow these steps.

Add Project Sources

  1. From your Manage Tools page (the last step from stage 2. Connect Tools), click Create a Project Space

  2. Select the JIRA board used by your team to form the basis of your Umano project space.
Please NOTE: Umano’s project space can only read one selected board at a time; all projects your team runs from that board will be included. To profile the workflow captured on a different board, create a new project space.

  3. Select the Confluence spaces and or pages used in your project that you want to contribute to your project space

  4. Select the Slack channels used in your project that you want to contribute to your project space

  5. Select the relevant Mattermost channels used in your project that you want to contribute to your project space.

  6. Click Continue to progress to adding project contributors

Add Project Contributors

  1. Umano pre-selects all team members discovered in your project’s Jira board. Select all project contributors whose activity you want to include in your project space.

  2. Un-tick the box next to any project contributor you do not want to include.

  3. Add the email address of any project contributor not surfaced by Umano that you want to include.

  4. Complete by clicking Select # project contributors

  5. You will progress to Add Umanists, the final step of creating you project space

Add Umanists

  1. Umanists are people that you’d like to grant access to your project space, and will be emailed their invitation to join once the project space has been populated with your team’s performance insights.

  2. Project Contributors have been pre-selected

  3. Select Add another Umanist to add the email address of other people you would like to access this project space.

  4. Complete by clicking Select # Umanists

  5. You will progress to the final step of creating your project space, giving your project space a name

Give your project space a name

  1. The name you assign is how your project space will be identified in Umano. The default name suggested by Umano is the board name that you selected.

  2. Click Confirm your project space name to complete the creation of your project space

Congratulations! You have completed creating your project space.

Now it’s Umano’s turn to do the work. We are extracting your team’s project data, analysing and populating your project space with insights into your team’s delivery practices. Depending on the size of the project, this could be as quick as two minutes, or take up to 24 hours.

You’ll get an email from us to join your space as soon as we’ve finished plugging things in and we’ve analysed your practices.
